Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
